You heard wrong, chimps have far denser bone and muscle and much bigger muscle attachments to the bone. A human could never be as strong as an adult chimp. There strength is for real. I work at a zoo and help feed them. I someone wanted to "test" their strength against a chimp they would very quickly regret that decision.

An average adult chimpanzee is about 5 times stronger than a human. Pretty amazing!
